West Coast
Touring in Tasmania is hugely popular and we often assist caravanners with their Spirit of Tasmania bookings and can start you off on your holiday, whether it be a week long, for three months, or even longer.
Campers, and avid photographers, will delight in waking up to the sound of wildlife (hopefully they’re not eating your breakfast), smelling fresh sea air or watching a crisp, morning sunrise from the top of the world. Be sure to pack good boots, a warm beanie, be prepared for sun and snow in the same day and never underestimate the importance of warm, dry feet – or an EPIRB (emergency position indicating radio beacon) if you’re going off the beaten track.
There are countless free and paid camping sites around the state, though of course some of these reside inside national parks so you will need to factor in your Parks Pass. Camping is also popular among Tasmanians too, so school holidays can mean busier campsites, and in some cases, booked out sites. During January to March, it’s always adviseable to ring ahead, or be prepared to spend some time driving between sites to find a space. Caravanning in Tasmania is also great way to dig a little deeper and experience a closer connection to the landscape and nature. There are so many little hidden spots to discover that allow camping and caravans to stay the night, with many unpowered sites in the most beautiful surrounds. Alternatively, there are over 50 caravan parks around the state that offer both unpowered and powered sites, as well as some that offer cabins for when you need a bathroom that you can dance in without hitting a limb, or breaking the sink!
Caravanners are well catered for, and indeed welcomed across Tasmania with many townships displaying the “RV Friendly” sign. There are dump points at the following townships:
Beaconsfield | Hobart | Nubeena | Scottsdale | Triabunna |
Bicheno | Latrobe | Pontville | Sorell
Devonport | Launceston | Railton | St Leonards
Glenorchy | New Norfolk | Rocky Cape Tavern | Swansea |
