Gracing the shores of Little Taylors Bay is a cosy fisherman’s cottage—commonly referred to as the roundhouse—which invites grand views of Little Taylors Bay, Huon Island and the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, into the open plan kitchen, lounge area, and master-bedroom due to its unique circular design.
Featuring a well-appointed kitchen from where guests can prepare their locally sourced ingredients and refreshments obtained from the day's exploration, the cottage's décor welcomes their idle consumption from either its indoor/outdoor tables as you watch the sun slowly set over the tranquil waters of Little Taylors Bay—just as the explorer Baudin and the crews of the 'Geographie' and 'Naturaliste' did in 1802.
The lounge area has a comfortable leather sofa positioned to soak up the sun, or soothing heat generated by the wooden fireplace, if so desired. Perfectly suited for groups of four with two bedrooms that can be configured with either four single beds, or one king and two singles—all serviced by a shared bathroom with laundry facilities.
The location is perfect for birdwatching, photography, young families wishing to explore Taylors Bay's sprawling shoreline and shallows—or those just wanting to curl-up and turn some pages as visiting wallabies and pademelons forage upon the lawns.
Bruny Island Coastal Retreats is passionate about the preservation and celebration of the Island’s extraordinary beauty and rich cultural landscape. The stewardship of our land and the wildlife that inhabit it are our highest priority. We cater for guests who share these values and who seek the “tonic of wildness” - away from the crowds, the endless shops, and the clamor of city life.
Bruny Island is a microcosm of the Tasmanian mainland. It is blessed with an extraordinarily diverse range of distinct environments - spectacular coastlines, geological wonders, beaches, rainforests, mountains, lagoons, abundant flora and fauna - an environmental cornucopia; all at your doorstep!
Our properties fully encompass this environmental diversity offering a range of spectacular settings for communing with the Island’s elemental splendour. Henry David Thoreau’s quote, “I have a room all to myself; it is nature...”, wonderfully encapsulates the experience we aim to evoke.
In keeping with this ethos, we enthusiastically support individuals, organisations, and projects that work to protect the cultural and environmental characteristics that make Bruny Island the very special place it is.
