Hiking in Tasmania is a great way to experience the local landscape, whether it’s an afternoon spent on kunanyi/Mt Wellington, or a 7-day jaunt through one of our national parks, you will experience the opportunity to pause and take stock, reenergizing yourself with the natural landscape that surrounds you.
For short walks, the state’s national parks service provides a publication that details sixty of Tasmania’s best walks. The publication, which is available for purchase at the centre, is guaranteed to provide something that suits you, whether it be a relaxed half hour stroll along a riverbank amongst the rainforest, or a more strenuous, but no less rewarding day hike along mountain peaks.
Intrepid explorers and bushwalkers will find joy in multi-day walks, which can be done independently or in a small luxury group tours, complete with decadent paddock to plate dinner experiences and a glass of local vino to wash it down in the evening. We work directly with a number of local tour companies and can help recommend the right experience for you.
When walking, it is important that you take all safety precautions, such as signing in and out at visitor centres, letting a loved one know your plans, packing adequate wet weather and cold climate clothing and carrying an Emergency Position Indicating Beacon (EPIRB).
