Tasmania offers a range of golf courses for the hobbyist and for the avid golfer alike. Home to more than 65 courses and two of World’s top 100 Golf Courses, we do love a few rounds and more than one of our own team here at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre have been known to roster their week around the game!
Passionate golfers in Tasmania are going to want to check out Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links, one of the Great Golf Courses of Australia and located just outside of Bridport, a small seaside town in the northeast and just an hours drive outside of Launceston. The course itself has breathtaking views overlooking Bass Strait and is built in the traditional Scottish links style.
Next door is Barnbougle Lost Farm Golf Links, also known as one of the Great Golf Courses of Australia, this 20 hole course is based on the philosophy that strategic golf is the most rewarding. Opened in 2010, the course features greens in among the coastline and dunes, providing an incredible backdrop to your golf day. This course is suitable for all abilities.
Next stop is King Island for Cape Wickham Links, yet another award winning course, voted number 3 by Australian Golf Digest's top 100 courses just months after opening in 2015. Let the wallabies join you at tee off for this spectacular coastal course, designed to make the most of the scenery through subtle design elements and wide corridors that allow for wind gusts that are par for the course when this close to Bass Strait and the roaring forties.
The nine hole Tasman Golf Course, whose eighth hole offers a unique challenge, requires you to tee off over a 100 metre clifftop chasm overlooking the Southern Ocean. The Tasman course is located nearby Port Arthur and provides a great opportunity to experience the Tasman Peninsula from a new and different perspective.
Other courses of merit include Ratho Farm at Bothwell, an hour’s drive to the north of Hobart and known as the oldest golf course in Australia, Tasmania Golf Club, overlooking the Barilla Bay of oyster fame and Quamby Estate, just outside of Launceston which also offers luxury heritage accommodation on site.
