By Sea
Unless you're a seasoned sailor, you'll need to jump on board the Spirit of Tasmania, which is the only ferry service to Tasmania and operates daily between Melbourne and Devonport in the state’s north-west. The Spirit of Tasmania carries cargo and transport as well as passengers, so it doesn't matter if you have a caravan, a car, a motorbike or a pushbike. you can board the ferry and relax whilst you sail across Bass Strait in comfort. Choose between four cabin types with a variety of bedding configurations, either shared or private, or get comfortable on a recliner for a few hours.
During the busier months, the Spirit of Tasmania sails twice daily and day sails are a great opportunity to learn about your destination, enjoy some local Tasmanian food and beverages, or kick back in one of the two cinemas. Evening sails are great if you are tight on time and want to hit the ground running when you arrive early in the morning - just be sure to stop in Devonport for a coffee before hitting the road on your exciting adventure!

By air
Tasmania has several airports, with Hobart, Launceston and Devonport airports serviced regularly from mainland urban centres. The vast majority of flights come from Melbourne and Sydney, however, direct flights also arrive regularly from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth also flying direct to Tasmania. The four major airlines service these routes with regional airlines also enabling travel to the Bass Strait islands of Flinders Island and King Island from Victoria and Tasmania alike.

We are more than 40% protected forests, reserves and parkland, whilst also being a thriving agricultural industry and in order to preserve the quality of these areas, we have some of the most stringent biosecurity requirements in the world.
