It’s been a while since I have been on any adventures in Tasmania but I have recently been showing a friend around Hobart city who has just moved to Tassie.
We had the chance to get on the Red Decker (Hop on/Hop off) bus around the city and it was really exciting being a tourist in my hometown, re-learning the points of interest around Hobart! The Red Decker bus runs daily and departs from right outside our travel and information centre. The 90 minute tour takes you to the main attractions of Hobart including Battery Point, Wrest Point Casino, Cascade Brewery, Cascades Female Factory Historic Site & the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.

You can choose to get off the bus and spend some time at one of our great city attractions and then jump back on the bus at either the stop you got off at or another stop. On the trip, there is commentary played out loud on the bus speakers which provides you with lots of history and information on Hobart and its surrounds. There’s also translation in several international languages and earphones which they provide you with.
In winter, it can get a little cold up on the top of the double decker bus so make sure to dress warmly! Come and grab a pair of gloves and perhaps a beanie from our travel centre before departing on the tour.
The Red Decker Company also offer the kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus the Richmond shuttle and a Zoo Doo Shuttle on select days. With the snow that is currently on ‘the mountain’ the Mt Wellington Explorer bus has been very busy taking people past the closed gates up to the summit of Mt Wellington (or as far as they can possibly go safely).
Come in and speak to one of our friendly travel advisors who will be able to assist you with booking any of the Red Decker Company’s tours and also learn about things to see and do in Hobart, Richmond or other parts of our beautiful state.
