Not an avid walker but want take a stroll to stretch your office legs and working-from-home shoulder? Snug Falls would be a great spot for you!
Located just outside the township of Snug, a 25 mins drive from Hobart, Snug Falls is a gorgeous high waterfall on the Snug River. The walk itself is only about 1 hour (4km) return along a downhill track through native bush scenery with a steep drop off, giving you the feeling you are walking amongst the treetops. It doesn’t take long for you to hear the sound of the waterfall and you can heart it more clearly as you get closer to the base of the falls.

The track isn’t the easiest to walk on and can be uneven in parts with rocks and fallen branches. It is particularly wet and muddy after heavy rains or snow, so take care and ensure you wear the right footwear especially if you are going on/after a rainy day. (Yes… I should probably not have worn my favourite sports shoes that day). The muddier the track gets, the prettier the falls look. The falls are impressive after heavy rains with the water thundering down from the top and pounding the rocky bottom, so it is totally worth the hassle of dodging the obstacles along the way.
In saying the above, this track is great for families with young children. I saw some kids absolutely loving the experience. It was just delightful to watch them climbing between the rocks and explore nature. The track is also dog friendly provided dogs are kept on a leash. To top it, I would suggest carrying a packed lunch and sit and enjoy this peaceful spot. (Please note: it is very busy during school holidays and hard to find a spot for yourself.)
Personal tip: I quite often head down to the Peppermint Bay Hotel in Woodbridge after the walk to enjoy a hot coffee (during the cooler months) and a delicious lunch to round up my day.
