I've always wanted to visit the South Cape Bay Track – the southernmost of the “60 Great short walks” in Tasmania. I've read great reviews, seen beautiful photos, and heard exciting stories from friends. There's something special about seeing a place for yourself, and I got to do just that.
On a cool Spring Sunday, my parents and I started our adventure on this famous track. It had rained recently, so the path was wetter and muddier than usual. Our shoes squished in the mud, which reminded us of the recent rain.

The South Cape Track is known for its wild beauty. It stretches across the southern part of Tasmania, offering views of remote beaches, tall cliffs, and natural forests. The muddy path was a bit of a challenge. We had to be careful with each step, trying to keep our balance and keep moving. This made us really focus on the walk and connect with the nature around us.
My parents and I love going on adventures together, and this was another one for us. The slippery path meant we had to help each other more. We worked as a team, pointing out difficult spots and helping each other if we were about to slip. It was more than just walking the track – it was about doing it together, helping each other, and having fun, even in the mud.
The wind also played a big part in our walk. As we got closer to the cape, the wind got stronger. It was a challenge, but it also made the walk more exciting. It might have tried to push us back, but it also made us want to keep going even more. We were covered in mud and the wind was blowing hard, but we felt great.
When we reached the end, we felt really proud and amazed. We looked out at the vast Southern ocean and the monstrous waves smashing against the towering cliffs - it was like nature was celebrating our journey. We spent five hours on the South Cape Bay Track - it reminded me that the journey is just as important as the destination. When you're with your loved ones, even a muddy path and strong winds can be fun.
On our way back, the wind kept howling, showing us the wild beauty of Tasmania. This trip taught us about enjoying every moment, no matter what. The hardest paths often lead to the best memories. This adventure, with its challenges and fun moments, was a perfect example of that.
