Eaglehawk Neck is a small, scenic area in Tasmania, known for its natural beauty and unique rock formations. To get there from Hobart, it takes around 1.5 hours along the Tasman Highway and Arthur Highway.
One of the highlights in the area is the Eaglehawk Neck Walk, a beautiful trail perfect for exploring. This walk takes you past some of the area’s most interesting and beautiful sights, including the Tessellated Pavement, Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen, and the Blowhole. Along the way, you’ll enjoy great views of the rugged cliffs and the clear blue sea. It’s a relaxing and enjoyable spot to take in the natural beauty of the area.
The Tessellated Pavement, located at the northern end of Eaglehawk Neck, is a natural rock formation where the rock surface has fractured into rectangular blocks, resembling a tiled floor. This unique formation is easily accessible from a nearby car park and is definitely a must visit spot.
Tasman Arch is a natural rock arch formed by the collapse of a sea cave due to wave action, offering impressive views of the coastline. A short walk from the car park leads to viewing platforms that provide points to observe the arch and surrounding cliffs. Located near Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen is a deep trench formed by the collapse of a sea cave’s roof, resulting in steep, rugged cliffs. A well-maintained walking track connects it to Tasman Arch, allowing visitors to experience both formations easily.
The Blowhole is also another amazing spot to visit especially during high tide or rough seas. The Blowhole is easily accessible from the car park via a short, level path. My favourite though is the Waterfall Bay walk along the cliff tops (one of Tassie’s 60 Great Short Walks) which has some wonderful lookouts offering stunning views of the coastline.
What I think is great about Eaglehawk Neck is that it’s not only a beautiful area to visit but there are a range of different areas to explore making it a perfect spot to explore while in Tasmania!
