After walking the amazing Cape Hauy Track on our recent visit to the Tasman Peninsula, the tin lids (10 & 13) and I went looking for a slightly easier walk the following day. We decided to tackle the 8km Mount Brown track. This out and back trail starts at the Remarkable Cave car park about 10km south of the township of Port Arthur and also includes the option to visit Crescent Bay. This was a much gentler walk than Cape Hauy but still provided us with more spectacular views of my favourite section of coastline.

After the usual initial grumbling from my fellow travellers, we set off along the track towards our first stop at Maingon Blowhole. This undulating section provides great views of Cape Raoul and the Tasman Sea beyond. We reached the Crescent Bay/Mount Brown fork about 1 hour in and scrambled up the side of Mount Brown which was steeper and has a lot of loose rocks, so you need to be careful with your footing. The 360 degree views from the top takes in Cape Pillar, Tasman Island and the crystal clear waters of Crescent Bay. It also turned out to be the perfect spot for a picnic and a Facetime call with the grandparents before our return trip.
We were spoilt with great weather on the day and even spotted an echidna on the way back. This was definitely one of the most surprising walks the kids and I have done. We didn't make it down to Crescent Bay but passed some adventurers heading that way for a bit of dune surfing. We will be heading back again soon to check it out. Allow 3-4 hours to take it all in and make sure to take plenty of water, snacks and your National Parks Pass.
