I recently had the opportunity to board Derwent Ferries - a passenger ferry which departs from Brooke Street Pier and takes you on a quick 15-minute trip over to Bellerive Pier, which arrives near the Waterfront Hotel - a great food and drink venue with stunning water views.
You can take your bike on the ferry as they have space for 15 and there is a fantastic bike track from Bellerive called the Clarence Foreshore trail which is a lovely 14.5km trail following the coast line from Geilston Bay to Bellerive via Howrah.
Once you arrive at Bellerive pier, it's only a short 5-minute walk to Blundstone Arena which has long been known as an iconic entertainment venue hosting local and international sporting events. Take a tour of the stadium and explore the Tasmanian Cricket Museum on a Stadium Tour which goes for 1.5 to 2 hours and departs 10 am on Tuesdays and Wednesday and 1 pm on Thursday. Please note that stadium tours do not operate on match days.
On a Saturday, you can visit the Tasmanian Produce Market at Kangaroo Bay Park which is a 10-minute walk from Bellerive Pier. The market operates every Saturday between the hours of 9 am - 1 pm (subject to weather). You’ll find at this market; a diverse range of fresh produce, and locally-crafted small-batch drinks, alongside a small selection of design stalls. The market is also dog friendly so you can take your best friend with you!
Visit the historic Kangaroo Bluff Battery. While the Kangaroo Bluff Battery was originally developed in the late 1800s to prevent enemy vessels posing a threat to Nipaluna / Hobart, it now makes the perfect picnic location with views over the River Derwent, Kunanyi / Mt Wellington and Nipaluna / Hobart.
The appearance of Russian warships in the area in 1873 prompted the need for a third battery to support the existing Battery Point and Queens Battery.
If the information I’ve shared is interesting and for to learn more about other transport options in around Nipaluna / Hobart, please feel free to get in touch with me on 03 6238 4222 or via email at booking@hobarttravelcentre.com.au . I may just share some other fab local tips and tricks too.
