Five Bob Cafe is located at Birchs Bay, on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, a 50-minute (50 km) drive south of Hobart, just past Woodbridge.
Cafe is open Thursday to Sunday, 11am - 4pm and selected public holidays and features produce from the farm's kitchen garden and native food ingredients. The menu changes regularly, dependent upon what is available seasonally and almost everything is made in-house. Bookings are highly recommended.
The property produces a significant proportion of Australia's native pepper crop, which is grown, dried and packaged at the farm and sold under the Diemen Pepper label. Products include packaged berries and leaf, tapas oils, vinegar and a range of native bush spices such as lemon and anise myrtle, wattleseed and bush tomato. The farm also grows Dutch iris for the mainland market and has recently planted a 2ha vineyard.
The farm hosts not-for-profit group 'Art Farm Birchs Bay' which runs art-based community events on the property and an annual Sculpture Prize, in which 20-30 sculptural installations are positioned along the walks and in a small gallery. Prize runs from March to July, but acquired pieces adorn the walks for year-round interest - the trail is open all year.
