If you’re from Sydney or Melbourne or even Brisbane and just coming to Tassie and more specifically Nipaluna / Hobart what would I do? Hmm… of course, it depends on one’s interests, so here are a few of my thoughts:

  1. Stay - Find a hotel close to the waterfront, so you’re in good proximity to pretty much everything. With options from backpackers to a luxurious waterfront suite, there are endless options to cater to each visitor’s budget.

Hobart Weekend 1

  1. Play - If you’re a nature lover, then the options vary depending on if you rent a car or not. If you decide to rent one then within a 30-minute radius of the city, there’s a fair few/ walks and hikes that you can do around Wellington Park like Cathedral Rock or Collins Cap. Alternatively, you can even take a bus to Kingston Beach and walk along the Alum Cliffs to the Shot Tower in Taroona or even closer to home would be a stroll along the Hobart Rivulet to spot a platypus and visit the Cascades Female Factory and Brewery.

Hobart Weekend 2

  1. Eat & Drink – There are so many fantastic eateries around the city, whether it’s local French bakeries or cafes, fine dining or the casual fish 'n' chips shop, Italian, Greek, modern-Japanese or modern-Australian, there’s a cuisine for everyone. There’s pubs and bars for all, and more than that there are wonderful beverage-related experiences like making your Gin or blending your own whiskey right in the heart of the city. Why not stroll over to local brewery or cider house? Check out the local markets over the weekend

Now saying all of the above, what would an immersive traveller like myself do in 2 days? Well, here goes…

Saturday

Arrive at my CBD hotel

Pick up a rental car (of course I’d get the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre to sort this out)

Morning - Drive to the Huon Valley

Hike Hartz Peak

Visit the Geeveston Visitor Information centre and find a platypus on the Platypus Walk

Lunch at a local winery or café

Afternoon - Visit the Huon Valley Grove of Giants (I am a huge giant tree fan)

Drive back to the city and spend the evening around Salamanca Place

Hobart Weekend 3

Sunday

Early Morning – Have a coffee and brekkie at a café in historic Battery Point

Visit the Farm Gate Market in Bathurst Street

Visit the Mawson’s Hut Replica Museum, and the Botanical Gardens and enjoy the city

Late afternoon – Visit a winery in Richmond

Evening – Relax and walk along the waterfront
